Pierre Omidyar made a site called AuctionWeb around 1995. The name was changed to Ebay in September of 1997. This web site allows you to put things up for sale. You can sell anything on Ebay, from clothes to furniture! You can even set up your own store!

As to how to sell on Ebay, you need to set up an account. First you must register. Registration includes supplying Ebay with information such as your name, address, and telephone number. Next, you must set up a seller's account. This includes providing information to verify your identity; this is usually accomplished with a credit card. You must also set your preference as to how you would like to be charged for seller's fees. Setting up a Paypal account is a good idea, as it can help speed up transactions. This too will require financial information, though your card will not be charged until you have a transaction.

Keep in mind that there are rules, so take a look at the policies and information on how to sell on Ebay. Visit Seller Central for helpful information like news, advice, etc. Different types of fees are how Ebay makes money. A small fee is charged for placing the ad; it is called an insertion fee. Another fee to keep in mind is if you add features like the Buy It Now option. The final transaction price will determine the final value fee, which is a small percentage of the price of the item.

Making a good listing comes next. Some tips for how to sell on Ebay include adding a picture and a good description of the listing items. Always add any manufacturer information to the listing. This includes any warranty information, product information and model numbers. Any defects should also be listed. This way the person knows what they are getting.

You have two main options for how to sell. You can hold an auction. You set the time limit and customers compete to get the best price. They even have the option of setting a maximum bid; this way if someone outbids their first bid, the system updates it to the next highest amount up to the maximum. The other way is to pay a fee for a buy it now sale. In this way the price is set and there is no bidding. Once a sale goes through, the buyer will be notified so that they can pay. Once you get paid go ahead and ship the item to the specified address.

Checking a seller or buyer's feedback is essential. It lets you know if they are good to do business with. It also gives customers a place to complain. If you don't fulfill the sale, they can leave negative feedback, which may prevent you from getting customers in the future.
