Seasoned hikers know to be prepared for any contingency during their hiking vacation whether they are just planning a day hike or an overnight trek. However, if you are new to the whole hiking adventure arena, it pays to be prepared with a few essential items. For instance, always carry a map of the area with you as well as a compass and if you have one, a GPS navigational tool. Not all hiking trails are marked and previous weather could have wiped out signs of trails too.

Carry a backpack during your hiking vacation and stock it with essentials like bottles of water, portable snacks, book of matches, a first aid kit, insect spray, a flashlight, binoculars, cell phone and even a solar blanket that can easily fold up. Not every hiker plans to spend the night outdoors but accidents happen and having a few of these items will make your life a lot easier.
